Linksys SRW2024 enabling lldp

Introduction

Protocol LLDP (Link Layer Discovery Protocol) is not enabled by default. Can be enabled using SNMP settings.

LLDP can very useful and is supported by SRW with MED extension.

Requirements

  • switch firmware version: 1.0.2
  • ability to use lcli
  • access to snmp tools on local computer

Procedure

  • enabling snmp
  • enabling LLDP

Enabling SNMP using lcli

  • log into switch using telnet and enable lcli (CTRL-Z)
  • console# conf
  • console(config)# snmp-server community public rw

(Warnig: change public community name to own community name or later disable write option)

Enabling LLDP from local computer

  • check current for settings: snmpwalk -v2c -c public 1.3.6.1.4.1.3955.89.110.1.1.1.0 proper response (lldp disabled): iso.3.6.1.4.1.3955.89.110.1.1.1.0 = INTEGER: 2
  • snmpset -v2c -c public 172.16.57.107 1.3.6.1.4.1.3955.89.110.1.1.1.0 i 1 response should be: iso.3.6.1.4.1.3955.89.110.1.1.1.0 = INTEGER: 1

Final steps

  • check command on switch: # show lldp nei
# show lldp nei
